The Whey It Is...

Papa and the 2 big boys went off to a music festival, Starbelly in Crawford Bay, they left this afternoon. Bold Papa, I would never do that, that's why it is great to have 2 parents! It was so much effort just to get them packed up, meals, clothes, tent, bikes, etc. Lucky boys papa is willing to be so adventurous. So here nap times shall be quiet, and I can get some stuff done instead of cooking & cleaning all day. However I was doing kitchen stuff most of the day anyhow, tending the kombucha, baking cookies, making whey & cream cheese (my first time!)... I want to use the whey to make some cultured beverages like ginger brew and a kind of "Hindu lemonade". It'll be experimantal. So what I did was line a strainer with 2 layers of cheesecloth, placed over a bowl, poured in a whole container of yogurt (can use kefir too), tied the cloth up onto a wooden spoon without squeezing it and let it sit for several hours until it stopped dripping liquid. The cream cheese is amazingly yummy and the whey will get to work soon! Apparently whey is full of minerals, keeps joints and muscles young, elastic & moveable, & good for stomach ailments ( 1 Tbsp 3x daily to heal stomach glands), & keeps in the fridge up to 6 months!

I'm also trying a valerian infusion on baby, to make him sleepy & relaxed, he seems to wake up often in the evening...threw in some lemon catnip (a new favourite from the garden), catnip is often used to help babies with colic. I'm giving him small amounts with a dropper, he likes to suck on it anyway...
